September’s Bakeable Challenge
This month is all about layer cakes. We picked our Special-Occasion Layer Cake as our challenge recipe because it is the perfect bake to stretch your skills. It has three layers, so you can work on your weighing and measuring techniques and cake leveling. You’ll bloom cocoa, make a delicious chocolate buttercream frosting and a decadent ganache. Filling the layers and decorating the outside will present other fun opportunities to make the cake just as you see it here or to put your own creative spin on this sure-to-please chocolate cake. We can’t wait to see what you bake up in your kitchen.
How to Participate:
- Bake a layer cake: Our Taste of Home bakers have all the tips and techniques you need to tackle our featured recipe: Special-Occasion Layer Cake. Put your own twist on it if you like, with other garnishes, fillings—whatever you please! Or bake another layer cake altogether. Bonus points if it’s from Taste of Home.
- Share photos of your finished cake: You can share pics on the Bakeable Facebook group or on Instagram (use #bakeable). We’d love to see what you come up with and will share your pictures to inspire others (we might even feature your cake in an upcoming newsletter).
- Ask questions: If you need help or a few baking tips, talk with our Taste of Home baking pros or others taking the challenge. They’re ready to answer all your questions in our Facebook group.
