We Tried Domino’s New Loaded Tots and They’re Full of Cheesy Deliciousness

Updated: Apr. 22, 2024

Here are my honest thoughts on the highly anticipated new appetizer.

When a pizza craving strikes, you just have to pull up the Domino’s website and succumb. From the sweet marinara to the gooey cheese to the savory garlic seasoning blend, Domino’s pizza is an indulgent, delicious fast food staple. I confess: even as a die-hard Californian health nut (I’m drinking a green smoothie as I write this), I have a major weakness for the pizza chain.

So when I heard Domino’s was launching a new line of loaded tots, I simply had to have them. And after my happy evening of exorbitant amounts of cheese and potatoes, I’ve compiled everything you need to know about the new appetizers, including my honest review. Let’s dive in!

What Are Domino’s New Loaded Tots?

Domino’s loaded tots are a version of “totchos” (tater tot nachos), a.k.a. tater tots heaped with cheese and other delectable toppings. As such, they make perfect sense as a menu extension for the popular pizza chain—think of them like the potato version of pizza.

At just $6.99 apiece, loaded tots are an easy addition to your go-to pizza order, or, in my case, a fun pick-me-up on a slow Sunday night. They can be purchased at any Domino’s location, over the website, phone, app or even with your car. Better yet, they come in three fun flavors: Melty 3-Cheese, Cheddar Bacon and Philly Cheesesteak. Here’s some more info on each.

Melty 3-Cheese

These golden tots are smothered in a creamy Alfredo sauce, then topped with a blend of Cheddar, provolone and mozzarella cheese. Domino’s suggests pairing them with a cheesy pizza for the ultimate cheese-lovers paradise.

Cheddar Bacon

This version of Domino’s tots come with crispy, smoky bacon; melty Cheddar and mozzarella cheeses; and a savory garlic-Parmesan sauce. Domino’s describes them as “a flavor party” for your tastebuds.

Philly Cheesesteak

Domino’s boldly calls these “the best totchos.” With tender steak, creamy Alfredo sauce, mozzarella and Cheddar cheese, and savory onion and green peppers, these tots promise to be “a mouth-watering, flavor-packed paradise.”

How Do Domino’s New Loaded Tots Taste?

Now, this is the part of the article where I admit that I am a vegetarian (womp, womp). As such, I only tasted the 3-Cheese loaded tots. But I was far from disappointed! The loaded tots were, indeed, loaded with cheese, packing a delightfully rich flavor for such a simple dish. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could taste all the individual cheeses, the Alfredo sauce and the fried potatoes. Does it taste exactly like you’d expect? Yes. Is it a bit salty? Of course. But that’s what you want from a food like this—reliably comforting and decadent.

Now, let’s talk texture. Before tasting the loaded tots, my main concern was that they would be quite soggy from the Alfredo sauce. However, much to my delighted surprise, the center was soft and gooey, much like a tater tot casserole, while the tots on the edges were delightfully crispy, with just a touchy of crunchy, charred cheese. The tots even yielded a pretty phenomenal cheese pull—maybe even more satisfying than that of their classic pizzas.

Would I Order Domino’s Loaded Tots Again?

Yeah, I would! Whenever a craving for a tater tot casserole strikes, these handily fit the bill. Still, these loaded tots will not replace the coveted cheesy bread in my informal Domino’s ranking of best appetizers. Nothing can top that sprinkling of buttery, garlicky goodness and the classic marinara dunk for me. But when you want some tots to munch while watching the game, add these to your cart. You can always drink a green smoothie tomorrow.
