Old-Fashioned Green Beans

- 6 bacon strips, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 2 pounds fresh green beans
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- In a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp, about 5 minutes. Add the beans, brown sugar and water. Stir gently; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer until beans are crisp-tender, 15 minutes. Remove to a serving bowl with a slotted spoon.

These beans are delicious. I halved the recipe for the two of us and still have some left over. The brown sugar gives these beans a subtle flavor but not overly sweet. Quick and easy and far better than opening a can of beans. Volunteer Field Editor

Very good but next time I will not put the bacon in until the end after beans are cooked as per my family's request.

these were fantastic. I did add dried cranberries and salt. Next time I might try adding some pecans. Can't believe how good these were though. Husband loved them too. I'll definitely make these a lot

These were so good. I used 1 pound of green beans, but other than that followed the directions.

Family loved these green beans!!! They were easy and delicious. I also double the brown sugar and water.

Love the sweet bacon flavor of these beans, and quick to make. Have also added fresh mushrooms to this dish and it was great.
