Country Green Beans

- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup cubed fully cooked ham
- 1/4 cup butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until beans are crisp-tender. Drain if necessary.
Nutrition Facts3/4 cup: 151 calories, 12g fat (7g saturated fat), 35mg cholesterol, 529mg sodium, 9g carbohydrate (3g sugars, 4g fiber), 4g protein.

I found this recipe when searching for a different way to make green beans for my picky eater. This was a hit at our house. I have made this many times. Sometimes I will swap out the water and use chicken broth instead, but this basic recipe is great. Easy to double or triple for company.

Very good. Very easy. My husband liked it. My grandchildren might even like it! The ham was a nice compliment. I might use less butter next time - not that I don't like the butter, just cutting out some fat and calories from a delicious fresh vegetable dish.

I make this every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. I think it is delicious and I am not a big fan of green beans so that definitely says something!
