Ingredients for Air Fryer Green Beans

  • Green beans: When picking the best green beans, look for bright-green, smooth, tender beans with a definitive snap. Leave the sad-looking, bumpy green beans with brown spots on the shelf.
  • Mushrooms: One of the biggest mistakes when cooking mushrooms is washing your mushrooms. Mushrooms soak up excess liquid when rinsed, and they won’t crisp up as well once cooked. The best way to clean mushrooms is using a dry mushroom brush and damp paper towel.
  • Red onion: Red onions have a powerful, pungent flavor that brighten up air-fried green beans.
  • Olive oil: Olive oil helps crisps up green beans in the air fryer.
  • Italian seasoning: A bit of Italian seasoning rounds out the dish with pleasant herbaceous notes that freshen everything up.

Directions

Step 1: Season the vegetables

Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Pat dry the green beans, mushrooms and onion slices. In a large bowl, combine the green beans, mushrooms, onion, oil, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Toss to evenly coat everything.

Editor’s Tip: Make sure you have the appropriate size air fryer before getting started. For 1 pound of green beans, opt for a 5-quart cooker.

Step 2: Air-fry the vegetables

Spread the vegetable mixture evenly on a greased tray in the air fryer basket. Cook just until the vegetables are tender, 8 to 10 minutes. Toss to redistribute everything, then cook until the mixture is browned, 8 to 10 minutes longer.

Test Kitchen Tip: In our testing, we’ve found that air-fryer cooking times can vary dramatically, even among the best air-fryer brands. Keep an eye on your vegetables, and check them for doneness after the initial eight minutes.

Air Fryer Green Beans Variations

  • Sprinkle with cheese: Toss some grated cheese into your air-fryer green beans. Try Parmesan, Gruyere, cheddar or pecorino for a hint of nuttiness and richness.
  • Sub in flavored butter: Swap out the olive oil for one of our easy flavored butter recipes like garlic-basil butter or cilantro-lime butter.
  • Kick up the spice: Add a dash of crushed red pepper flakes to your green beans in the air fryer if you enjoy a bit of heat!
  • Use a different spice blend: Instead of Italian seasoning, experiment with different spice blends like Greek seasoning, Jamaican jerk or curry powder.

How to Store Air-Fryer Green Beans

To store, allow the green beans to cool completely to room temperature. Place them in an airtight container, and keep in the fridge for up to four days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350° until warmed through, about five minutes.
