Slow-Cooked Hoisin Pot Roast

- 1 medium onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 boneless beef chuck roast (4 to 5 pounds)
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup hoisin sauce
- 3 medium plums or 6 pitted dried plums, halved
- Place onion in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Cut roast in half. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat; brown meat. Transfer meat to slow cooker. Combine water and hoisin sauce; pour over meat. Top with plums. Cook, covered, on low until meat is tender, 8-10 hours. If desired, skim fat.

Very tasty! Made as directed, was very easy to put together and turned out very tender. I've never thought of cooking a roast with hoisin before and I'm so glad I tried this. I served it over mashed potatoes.

Oh my! Oh my! Oh my!!!!!!! Sooooooo delicious!!!!! It just melts in your mouth tender!!!! Easy to prepare and just put it in the crock pot and let it cook away!!! I served with brown rice and steamed veggies!!

Delicious! Roast was extremely tender, hoisin sauce plus drippings made a great sauce, and even the dried plums added to the flavor (who would have thought?) Can't wait to try it again!

We can't eat onions or plums because of allergies so I subbed carrot for the onions and left out the plums. This was without a doubt the BEST roast I have ever made. My husband couldn't stop raving about it. The carrots were wonderful. Wish I had added more. Triple yum!

made this for the takeout beef fried rice. turned out really well, will make again. used a shoulder blade roast as they dont call them chuck up here!
