Take this pizza-inspired dish to your next party. It makes an amazing side, or you can enjoy a larger serving alongside a fresh green salad for a delicious entree. It can even be made the day before and reheated. —Taste of Home Test Kitchen

Ingredients

  • 1 pound bulk Italian sausage
  • 2 cups chopped celery
  • 2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) cut green beans, drained
  • 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) cut wax beans, drained
  • 1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (16 ounces) butter beans, drained
  • 1 can (15 ounces) pork and beans
  • 3 cans (8 ounces each) pizza sauce
  • Optional toppings: Grated Parmesan cheese, crushed red pepper flakes and minced fresh oregano or basil

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, brown sausage over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles, until no longer pink. Transfer to a 5-qt. slow cooker with a slotted spoon. Add celery and onion to skillet; cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Drain. Add celery mixture and the next 6 ingredients to slow cooker; mix well.
    Cover and cook on low until bubbly, 6-8 hours. If desired, serve with toppings.

Can you freeze Pizza Beans?

Freeze cooled beans in freezer containers. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a saucepan, stirring occasionally; add a little water or broth if necessary.

How can I make this recipe without a slow cooker?

If you don't have a slow cooker, these pizza beans can be made in the oven. Bake at 325°F until bubbly, or for about 1-1/2 hours.
