I made this once for my dad and now my mom has to make it often. It's one of his favorites. --Suzanne Kern

My boys (4 & 1) call these chocolate beans. We love them. Wish I could rate it 10 stars

This is an excellent recipe. My family loves this. However, I really don't care for the kidney beans in it, so I double the pork & beans. I use more bacon than called for, I cooked 12 ozs. of bacon . I like this dish meaty! The sauce ingredients I doubled to make it saucier. I get nothing but rave reviews when I make this recipe. It's wonderful! :) Thanks!!

These beans were a big hit with my family. I added a can of chile beans undrained and replaced the lima beans with baby butter beans drained and rinsed.

This is an old recipe add baby lima beans and some form of chili pepper or tapatia or other hot sauce and you have my Mother's recipe. Add lib on the different styles of beans and spices to include italian if that's taboo with you. =) It's a camping favorite as it can be done in a kettle over a fire, in a frying pan or in an oven. If electricity is available we usually make it in the crock pot to save the skillets and such for other foods. Love this recipe myself! Have had many people over the years ask for it's recipe which originally came from my Great-Great Grandmother.Glad to see it here but you beat me to it. LOL!
