These waffle sandwiches have a sweet, smoky flavor thanks to three meats, a slice of cheese and apricot preserves. Make them with store-bought waffles to save time, or pull out that waffle maker and make them fresh.

You know what they say about breakfast—it’s the most important meal of the day. Get started on the right foot with a sweet-savory waffle sandwich made with a truly satisfying combination of ingredients, including deli turkey and ham and Havarti and bacon all piled on crisp, golden waffles. This waffle breakfast sandwich is perfect on a slow Sunday morning when you have nothing to do but laze around, read the paper and take a nap (don’t forget to pair it with a mimosa or two).

Waffle Sandwich Ingredients

  • Apricot preserves: The sweetness of the apricot pairs nicely with the savory flavors of this sandwich.
  • Frozen waffles: Make your own waffles using our classic recipe.
  • Lunch meat: We like using a combo of deli turkey and ham, but feel free to swap these for your lunch meat of choice.
  • Havarti cheese: Use whatever sliced (strong-flavored) cheese you’d like here.
  • Bacon strips: Crisp the bacon completely before adding it to the sandwich.
  • Butter: You can use cooking spray instead of butter for a healthier alternative.
  • Maple syrup: Serve the syrup on the side so your sandwich doesn’t get soggy.

Waffle Sandwich Variations

  • Make a vegetarian version: Use tempeh, seitan or tofu bacon and plant-based lunch meat in place of the turkey, ham and bacon if you want to make this sandwich vegetarian-friendly.
  • Add a different topping: Fresh fruit, jam and powdered sugar are all tasty toppings on a waffle sandwich.

How to Store Waffle Sandwiches

You can store any leftover waffle sandwiches in an airtight container in the fridge (minus the syrup and other toppings).

Can you freeze waffle sandwiches?

We wouldn’t recommend freezing waffle sandwiches. They’re best made fresh.

Can you use a waffle maker to make these sandwiches?

Yes! Check out our guide to the best waffle makers to figure out which one best suits your needs.

How can I make sure my waffles don’t turn out soggy?

Nobody likes soggy waffles. The key to making your waffle sandwich crisp is to let your griddle or waffle maker get as hot as possible first. Let it heat up for at least five minutes before adding the sandwich ingredients.

What should you serve with waffle sandwiches?

We like serving waffle sandwiches with a side of scrambled or poached eggs and fruit.
