We discovered this recipe in Mexico. We couldn't figure out what made this French toast so delicious until we learned the secret was vanilla—one of Mexico's most popular flavorings. Since then, we've added a touch of vanilla to our waffle and pancake recipes. It makes them all very tasty. —Joe and Bobbi Schott, Castroville, Texas

I made these today for breakfast. I substituted the milk for heavy cream. They turned out delicious!! What an easy recipe. The whole family loved them! Next time I make them I will definitely try the suggestions posted in the reviews.

THIS TIME OF THE YEAR I LIKE TO USE EGGNOG AS THE BASE ADD A COUPLE SCRAMBLED EGGS, A SPLASH OF VANILLA AND SOME CINNAMON. I USE TEXAS TOAST AS MY BREAD CHOICE. DREDGE THE BREAD ON BOTH SIDES IN THE MIXTURE AND PLACE IN A PREHEATED BUTTERED PAN. I SPRINKLE NUTMEG ON THE FINISHED PRODUCT. YUMMY

This is an excellent basic recipe. I've used one like this for years and it's delicious. I have switched up variations from time to time. I sometimes use Kings Hawaiian Bread, cinnamon raisin bread, Texas toast. Would like to try brioche, but havn't found any yet. I have used egg nog and that is the bomb. This a customable recipe

For a twist i used rum extract and egg nog instead of milk.
