Seasoned Taco Meat

- 3 pounds ground beef
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 2 cups water
- 5 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- In a large cast-iron skillet or Dutch oven, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add water and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until the water is evaporated, about 15 minutes.

Great recipe to keep on hand in the freezer. Easy and uses staple pantry items, but you can to it to make it perfect for your family! It's a keeper.

This is a great starting-point taco or nacho meat recipe. From here, I might go in a million directions. Some I've tried are: Add finely chopped vegetables like chiles, carrots, tomatoes or garlic. Replace some or all of the meat with chopped eggplant, cooked black beans, or a meat substitute. Add a handful of chopped fresh green onions and cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice, just before serving.

Easy to make. This time when I made this I subsisted Bob's Red Mil TVP for ground beef. Works with ground turkey too.

I added fresh cilantro to this and my family still prefered the packaged seasoning over this...
