My husband had never had tater tot casserole! I made this recipe, but I added a bag of frozen veggies because that's how I grew up eating it. He LOVED this!

Since I take casseroles for a group of men, I’m always searching for simple and filling yet delicious meals. This one was a hit! After reading the previous reviews, I added a splash of Worcester sauce, sautéed green bell peppers and onions with the meat, and used 1 can mushroom soup and 1 can cream of chicken. I stirred together all the ingredients except tots and cheese , placed that in the pan then topped with tots and cheese. I also added additional cheese. The men enjoyed it and requested I bring it again. I wish I’d had this recipe decades ago because my son loves tater tots and this would have been a meal he’d love. Volunteer Field Editor

I changed this up a bit. I added onions and green peppers to my ground beef as I was browning it. The rest of the recipe remained the same , but I layered everything like I would with making lasagna and it was deliciousl. I used a dollop of sour cream when eaten . It was delicious. The onions and peppers flavored it right up.

Used Sharir7209's "tweaks" - the golden mushroom soup and cream of celery soup made it very flavorful. Great easy comfort food for a cold winter night!

I have been looking for a tater tot casserole recipe and found this. Gave it a try and was a little disappointed. I followed the recipe except put the cheese on during the last 15-20 minutes of cooking. It wasn't bad but it seemed like something was missing. Had it the next day as leftover and thought it was better than out of oven.

We have had a much loved similar recipe for years (we = my sister found it, shared it with me). The only part we cannot remember is the actual name and origin of the recipe! Our "Tater Tot Casserole Bake Thingy" is similar, but the serving count is larger, we use 32 oz. bag of tater tots and closer to 2lbs of ground beef, but that's due to the number of people eating. The real difference is, we use 2 different soups - Golden Mushroom and Cream of Celery; adding one "can full" of milk, so 2:1 ratio soup to milk. We don't add the cheese topping until last 15 minutes of baking time...and then put a dish of sour cream on the side for everyone to add a big spoonful to the top of their portion. This is one of our favorite easy-peasy weeknight/rainy-cold night/comfort food suppers.

I adjusted this a bit to accommodate what I had on hand. In a skillet I cooked carrots and cut up pearl onions. Then I added in minced garlic clove and 1 cup of cooked beef tenderloin from a previous meal, cooking until the carrots were tender. I followed the rest of the directions as written. What a dish, my kids loved it.

My family loves it! I found this recipe when searching for easy meals to prepare following surgery. Not only is this simple to make, it's better than the traditional tater tot casserole. I have used cheddar cheese and cream of chicken in place of the cream of mushroom. Both are great.
