Tyson Just Recalled Thousands of Packages of Its Dino-Shaped Chicken Nuggets

Updated: Nov. 06, 2023

This is bad news for kids and kids at heart.

Is there any food more nostalgic than crispy chicken nuggets? Well, there might be one: dino-shaped chicken nuggets! No kid can resist ’em—and grown-ups love the walk down memory lane.

Before heating up your next bag of frozen chicken nuggets, though, double-check the package. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a Tyson chicken nuggets recall that affects nearly 29,819 pounds of nuggets.

Why are the chicken nuggets being recalled?

Reports of small metal pieces found in the packages of “fully cooked fun nuggets.” One consumer even reported an oral injury after eating the chicken nuggets, which is scary to think about. As a result, Tyson issued this chicken nugget recall.

Because the 29-ounce plastic packages were made on September 5, 2023, the FSIS is concerned they may still be in consumers’ freezers. To check the safety of a bag of Tyson “fully cooked fun nuggets breaded shaped chicken patties” in your freezer, there are a few details to look for.

First, the bags will have a Best If Used By date of September 4, 2024. Shipped to distributors in Alabama, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin and sold for retail, the packages will also have the following lot codes:

  • 2483BRV0207
  • 2483BRV0208
  • 2483BRV0209
  • 2483BRV0210

These lot codes can be found on the back of the packages, along with an establishment number of “P-7211.”

What should I do next?

If you happen to have one of the recalled packages, don’t eat them. Instead, throw the bag away or bring it back to the store where it was purchased.

While there was only one report of a minor oral injury associated with the nuggets, the FSIS advises customers with injury or illness concerns to contact a healthcare provider. Customers with further questions can call 855-382-3101 to speak with Tyson Consumer Relations.
