  • 1-3/4 cups 2% milk
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup fresh or frozen unsweetened blueberries, thawed

1 cup: 455 calories, 7g fat (3g saturated fat), 16mg cholesterol, 271mg sodium, 89g carbohydrate (57g sugars, 7g fiber), 13g protein.


  1. In a small saucepan, bring milk to a boil. Stir in oats and salt. Cook over medium heat for 1-2 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon. Divide between two serving bowls; top with blueberries. Yield: 2 servings.

"What is up with all the salt hate? It's an 1/8 teaspoon! It won't kill you, and it just makes things taste better! Having said that, I give this a three simply because I find the idea of milk in oatmeal to be repugnant and it's oatmeal! The directions are right there on the box and you can add anything you want to it! That's the beauty and simplicity of oatmeal. :)"

"I prepared this recipe this morning and declare it a winner. It is not only easy but delicious. So much better than the purchased flavored oatmeal. The only thing I will do next time is leave out the salt. Those of you who salt everything, may want to leave it in. This oatmeal is good anytime. I buy fresh blueberries in the summer and freeze for winter. I highly recommend this recipe as a Volunteer Field Editor for Taste of Home."

"I add ground flaxseed (cold milled), dash of ground cinnamon and use light vanilla soy milk. No salt or sweetener. Can also add frozen cherries for natural sweetness and nutrition. Simple, comforting recipe with a wallop of nutritional goodness and it keeps you full for hours."

"I have a similar recipe that I use. 1/2 cup old fashioned oatmeal, 3/4 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 tblsp Whey Low Gold brown sugar, a pinch of cinnamon, a splash of vanilla and 1 tblsp sliced almonds.

I cook the oatmeal and 1/2 cup skim milk and 1/2 cup water together for about 5 min. Thaw the blueberries in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Dump the oatmeal over the blueberries, add remaining 1/4 skim milk, vanilla, cinnamon and Whey Low brown sugar. Mix all together and sprinkle with almonds. Almost like dessert and only 305 calories."
