- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 4-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- In a bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Cut in butter until crumble. Combine egg and milk; stir into crumb mixture just until moistened. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10-15 times. Roll out to 1-in. thickness; cut with a 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.

I really liked the texture and flavor of the whole wheat/AP flour mixture. I have never made that before. I used to make great biscuits and just started baking again and my biscuits have been turning out horrible until I tried these. Question: why all the milk? i only used about 3/4 cup of the milk egg mix and I live in a very low humidity area. what a waste.

Delicious! So light and fluffy. I've yet to make them with the all-purpose/wheat flour mixture, but they still turn out great. Nine minutes baking time results in a perfect, lightly browned biscuit. Just make sure to spray your sheet pan with cooking spray. They glide right off. New favorite for my family!

Thanks for sharing your recipe. When I saw the magic words "4-H", we just had to try them. My daughter won reserve champion at the county fair when she made them several years ago. Now, a few years later, my son just won champion at the county fair and so we are off to the Indiana State Fair. :)

My son just made this recipe for our county fair and won reserve champion. He made it several times with just all purpose flour and with the wheat flour and each time the biscuits came out perfect. This is a fool proof recipe!!

GREAT biscuits! I've made Bisquick biscuits & biscuit mixes in the past but they don't turn out anything like these do. This is my first wheat biscuit recipe from scratch. They pull apart with my hands. They taste so good!
