Mango Margarita Recipe Ingredients

  • Coarse sea salt: Be sure to use coarse sea salt when lining the glass’s rim. Fine sea salt will dissolve almost immediately.
  • Blanco tequila: Of all the tequila styles, blanco tequila is one of our favorites for margarita recipes.
  • Mango nectar: If you’re unfamiliar, mango nectar is mango puree mixed with a bit of sugar syrup. Mango nectar is not the same as mango juice, so be sure to check the labels at the store!
  • Sriracha chili sauce: We love the subtle heat and red-orange hue this ingredient adds to the drink!
  • Frozen mango: You’ll only need this ingredient if you decide to make the frozen mango margarita recipe.

Directions

How to Make a Frozen Mango Margarita

Step 1: Prepare the rim

Rim of salt on the cocktail glassTMB Studio

Moisten the rim of one cocktail glass with a lime wedge. Set the lime aside to garnish the drink later if you wish. Sprinkle the salt on a plate, and dip the rim in the salt to adhere the salt to the glass.

Editor’s Tip: You can also swap the coarse sea salt for coarse sugar if you like a sweeter drink.

Step 2: Blend

Place the tequila, mango nectar, lime juice, Sriracha and frozen mango in a blender. Cover the blender with the lid, and process until the margarita is smooth and silky.

Editor’s Tip: We recommend a good blender for this job. We’ve found that the best blender a kitchen could have is the Vitamix E310 Explorian Blender!

Step 3: Garnish

Pour the mango margarita into the prepared glass. Garnish the drink with the lime wedge and, if desired, some sliced-up mango. A few edible flowers would be so special, too!

How to Make a Mango Margarita on the Rocks

Step 1: Prepare the rim

Moisten the rim of one cocktail glass with a lime wedge. Set the lime aside to garnish the drink later if you wish. Sprinkle the sea salt on a plate, and dip the rim in the salt to adhere the salt to the glass. Fill the glass with ice.

Editor’s Tip: You can also swap the coarse sea salt for coarse sugar if you like a sweeter drink.

Step 2: Combine the margarita ingredients

In an empty cocktail shaker, combine 2 ounces tequila, 2 ounces mango nectar, 1/2 ounce lime juice and 1/4 teaspoon Sriracha chili sauce.

Step 3: Shake it up!

Fill the cocktail shaker with a few ice cubes. Replace the lid on the cocktail shaker, and shake until a frost forms on the outside of the shaker, 15 to 20 seconds.

Step 4: Strain and garnish

Strain the margarita into the prepared glass. Garnish it with a lime wedge.

Recipe Variations

  • Try other fruits: Replace part (or all) of the frozen mango with a different type of frozen fruit. Pineapple, peaches, strawberries and watermelon would all work well here.
  • Line with a Tajin rim: Want to kick up the spice? Omit the coarse sea salt for the rim, and use Tajin seasoning instead.
  • Swap the Sriracha: No Sriracha? No problem! Sambal oelek, hot sauce or a few rounds of thinly sliced jalapenos make a great replacement. You can also omit the spice entirely if you don’t want the heat.

Can you store mango margaritas?

Yes, you can store mango margaritas. For frozen mango margaritas, store in the freezer for up to two days.

For mango margaritas on the rocks, whisk together the tequila, mango nectar, lime juice and Sriracha. Pour the mixture into an airtight container, and store in the fridge for up to two days. Once you’re ready to serve it, pour the mixture into a cocktail shaker, and continue with Step 3.

What can I serve with mango margaritas?

The best foods to serve with mango margaritas are authentic Mexican dishes! A few easy appetizers to put together are of course a chip, salsa and homemade guacamole spread, while esquites and shrimp ceviche really make an impressive mark.

For a more complete meal, carry over the mango theme, and prepare our pork tacos with mango salsa. You can’t go wrong by setting out an impressive plate of chiles rellenos, and who doesn’t love chicken fajitas?

What’s the best tequila for margaritas?

The best tequila for margaritas are blanco and reposado tequila. We love Casa Dragones Blanco, Olmeco Altos Plata, Don Julio Blanco and Lalo Tequila.
