Frozen Brandy Old-Fashioneds

Both sides of my family are Midwestern, so our strong brandy tradition is evident in the slush we make for the holidays and in the Wisconsin old-fashioned cocktails we enjoy year-round. I decided to combine those recipes into something completely new. This goes very quickly at gatherings! —Stephanie Vaughan, Madison, Wisconsin

Way to go Stephanie. I’m Kathy in Milwaukee. Was given this (almost identical) recipe 50 + yrs ago and have made them ever Christmas since. Wouldn’t be Christmas without them. I even used to make a no alcohol version for my kids and now for the grandkids. Delicious...never thought to share or submit. They are wonderful. We serve with either 7 Up or Squirt. Some like it sweet, some sour. Thanks for sharing. I’m trying your version this year cause mine doesn’t use bitters. Sounds delish.

Delicious but dangerous! Made two batches of this slush for Christmas and New Years last year. They are delicious and easy to have a fun time!! Enjoy, but proceed with caution!

This was simple to make. I easily halved the recipe so I have a big container of slush for one person. Should last me a few weeks! Assembled the night before to serve for a "virtual cocktail party" on Zoom with my family. I wanted a bit more of an Old Fashioned flavor, however, so I did make this change: Instead of 1 cup of Brandy (for a half recipe), I used 1/2 cup of Brandy and 1/2 cup of Bulleit Bourbon. It still turned into a perfect scoopable slushy consistency. At time of serving, I thought this was a REALLY sweet recipe, given it started with a simple syrup, used the sweet juice from cherries, and the undiluted OJ concentrate. So, rather than topping with MORE sugar in a 7-up, I just used very cold club soda. That made it perfect for me.
