These air-fryer hash browns are one of my go-to sides. They come together quickly, and the air fryer gets them nice and crispy in no time. If you'd like, try topping them with a sprinkling of shredded pepper jack cheese. —Cindi Boger, Ardmore, Alabama

Ingredients

  • 1 package (30 ounces) frozen shredded hash brown potatoes
  • 1 large red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small sweet red pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 small green pepper, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 drops hot pepper sauce, optional
  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh parsley

Directions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 375°. In a large bowl, combine the first 8 ingredients; if desired, add hot sauce. In batches, spread mixture in an even 3/4-in.-thick layer on a greased tray in air-fryer basket. Cook until golden and crispy, 15-20 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley just before serving.

Air-Fryer Hash Browns

Can I put frozen hash browns in the air fryer?

Yes! You can put frozen hash browns straight into the air fryer, you don’t have to thaw them first. They may just take a bit longer to cook.

Why won’t my hash browns get crispy in the air fryer?

If you’re having a hard time getting your hash browns crispy in the air fryer, make sure you aren’t making the layer any thicker than the recipe calls for. If you do, it won’t allow for even browning and crispiness.

How long should I preheat the air fryer before adding the hash browns?

Preheat the air fryer for about 5 minutes before adding the hash browns. This will allow the hash browns to start cooking immediately instead of sitting cold while the air fryer heats up.

What can I serve with air-fryer hash browns?

Nothing goes better with hash browns than fluffy scrambled eggs and homemade breakfast sausages. Use any leftovers to prep some breakfast burritos for the freezer!
