When I was a school cook, the students loved my chili because they thought it didn't have beans in it. They didn't know I puree the beans, tomatoes, onions and green pepper to create a tasty, vitamin-packed chili! —Mary Selner, Green Bay, Wisconsin

My family hated this recipe, even my husband who will eat almost anything.....yuck!

I haven't tried this yet, but I will. What a great idea. My grandson picks out things like beans, onions, peppers, but is fine eating it if he doesn't know it's there.

I haven't tried the recipe yet, but I just want to say THANKS for the tip to puree the beans with other ingredients. I'm an adult and HATE beans, but feel bad not eating them, because I know they're good for me. I'll give this a try!

I started this as the base of my recipe but ended up with something completely different. First off my blender wasn't working so I cooked the ground beef with a tbs of garlic & 2 tsp of chili powder with the onion & green pepper. Then add that to the beans, tomatoes & cayenne pepper instead of cumin. Then I thought it need some color so I added a can of whole kernel corn. Then followed the rest of directions as written. Oh also I chose to not eat this over spaghetti but more like normal chili.

We made this according to the directions the first time. Each time after, we didn't puree the veggies and beans, which worked a lot better for us.

My 3-year-old daughter loves it over pasta!

Sounds o.k., but I prefer mine with real beans. My family (including kids) loves it.

Sounds like some kids are really fussey eaters, just like that commercial on T.V. I believe it's about Chef BoyR Dee ravioli, or sloppy Joes. It's supposed to have the vegetables kids need in their diet and the mother is afraid for the kid to hear that! Baloney, ALL kids should be made to at least TRY the food before they say they don't want it or won't eat it. If they won't eat it, then they don't eat!!

This recipe tasted pretty darn good and my bf was so excited when i told him it was served with spaghetti noodles! it tasted a bit like refried beans to be, though, with the pureed beans. but it was still tasty, ill def make it again

This chili/spaghetti was so good!!! I don't use the plain regular chili powder that the recipe calls for. I use one that consist of many spices in the chili powder. Besides that, it was delicious with the spaghetti noodles, even the in-laws enjoyed it. I will definatly make this extremly easy recipe again!!

To Mary, who contributed the recipe for "Schoolhouse Chili."

Thanks for the suggestion to puree the beans. It's simple, but I hadn't thought of it. That's a great way to pack in the nutrition, whether this is an at school meal or one eaten at home.
