You'll need just four common ingredients to put together this comforting dessert from Mary Ann Potter of Blue Springs, Missouri. "A friend gave me this recipe several years ago," Mary Ann notes. "She said a local minister's wife fixed it every Sunday, so she named it accordingly."

Made the recipe in a 3 quart with 2 cans of filling, cooked almost 3 hours but still looked "raw". Next time I will make it with enough time to use a backup.

This is a five star recipe for sure....easy to make, easy to take along, taste wonderful to young and old alike. I have enjoyed it for years, and have never been disapointed with the results. We like it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to guild the lilly.

Also need 3 hours on low, not 2 hours.
Slow cooker dump cake is a great idea, however the recipe needs revision. Use a 3 quart slow cooker and 2 cans of pie filling for 1 standard cake mix and 1 stick of butter. Cherry pie filling and chocolate fudge cake are our favorite.

I made this many times after it was published in 1999. The original recipe did not suggest a 1 1/2 qt slow cooker so I cooked it in a 3 qt. Very good recipe!
