This was VERY creamy also VERY good. Oh and when she says use a large bowl - USE A LARGER BOWL. I used Nestle's Hot Cocoa mix (it says add either hot water or milk)...so I had to try it. I used the 1/3 cup to 8 oz. hot water and it was very creamy (probably wouldn't use milk). Oh and I also added like 40 of the peppermint candies (as I had bought a rather large bag of them). I too made this for Christmas gifts - hope they like it too.
My kids loved it! This will become a new tradition to make this hot chocolate every Christmas!
easy peasy to prepare. I made this for Christmas gifts. Next time I would add a couple tablespoons of cocoa powder, as perhaps the chocolate drink mix I used was not chocolaty enough. I found this makes up just as nice with water.
Dreamy, Dreamy, Dreamy! I make this every Christmas for home and as gifts!
This is an awesome recipe! We will be using this for a long time! (For those who use cups instead of ounces, use 7-2/3 cups chocolate powder and 6-1/4 cups dry milk powder.)
I have made this recipe to give to friends and neighbors every Christmas for the last several years. Everyone love it!
I had to use a large stock pot to mix this in. I bought the instant chocolate drink mix and the nonfat dry milk powder in a wholesale store so the packaging was larger. I do not own a scale, so I estimated what was needed in cups....I used 7 cups of the chocolate mix and 6 cups of the nonfat dry milk. I made several containers to give as gifts and of course I had to try it first. It is delicious, better than the store bought hot chocolate mixes I usually buy. I crushed the peppermint candies in my mini food processor, and it did an excellent job, made it into a powder. I was a little nervous that it was going to crack the bowl, but I was lucky. I will be making this again!
This is the only hot chocolate we can drink now. My husband and sons love it! I dont mix with milk either, just hot water and its still fabulous. I add cocoa powder, powdered sugar and vanilla to real whipped cream and serve it with the hot chocolate. Yummy!
I've had this recipe for 25 plus years also as such, but we never added it to milk because it has milk in it already.... But I also didn't add the candy to the mix, BUT I serve it with a scoop of Cool whip on top and a pepperment stick to flavor.Gloria
We found this recipe in Country Woman many years ago, and my daughter (10)'s teachers have been enjoying it every year since! It's GREAT in coffee! We make a triple batch, and put extra mints. (Instead of 25, we put a whole 250 piece bag in it!)Can you imagine the time it takes to open 250 peppermints?? LOL! It's worth every second!Deanna
