Updated: Dec. 06, 2023

Tired of wasting food? We totally get it, and thanks to TikTok, we now know exactly how we're reusing our peanut butter jars...by making a quick Asian peanut sauce!

No one likes having to waste food. With all the cooking I do in my house, I try to keep as many food scraps as I can to upcycle for other uses. So when another creative idea for using every last citrus peel, stale piece of bread or vegetable stalk pops up, it’s hard to resist not trying it out.

One of the most recent hacks we’ve seen is from TikTok creator Carleigh Bodrug’s @plantyou account. While her account offers almost every idea you’d ever need to recycle food you’d otherwise have to throw out, it’s the peanut butter jar hack that has won so many people over. Without further ado, let’s make the Asian peanut sauce that has gone viral.

How to Make Asian Peanut Butter Dressing with Empty Peanut Butter Jars

You know the feeling of scraping the absolute last of the peanut butter out of the jar and having to watch the rest of the unusable bits go into the trash? Well, it’s time to turn those bits into a creamy sauce.

Ingredients

  • Peanut butter, whatever is left in the jar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • Juice from a whole lime

Feel free to play around with proportions depending on how much peanut butter remains in the jar. Add a little more sriracha for heat or maybe less soy sauce to reduce salt. Whatever fits your palate is right for you.

Directions

Step 1: Mix in liquids

Take your old jar of peanut butter and add your soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar and sriracha to the jar.

Step 2: Add fresh produce

Freshly grate your ginger into the jar and finish it off with the freshly squeezed juice of the lime.

Step 3: Shake it all up

Shake the ingredients in the peanut butter jar until well mixed and the peanut butter pulls away from the wall of the jar.

What Can I Put Asian Peanut Butter Dressing On?

In the video, Carleigh uses it on her favorite peanut noodle salad packed with tons of veggies. Thai pasta is another good option that doesn’t contain meat. If you’re a meat lover, add it to this chicken in coconut peanut sauce or beef stir-fry.
