“I like to sprinkle this with toasted almonds or cashews and serve with hot couscous.” Flavored with cinnamon and a touch of sweetness from the apricots, this stew tastes like you fussed. Great for potlucks, too! Angela Buchanan - Longmont, Colorado

This was very good. I added a can of diced tomatoes to add a little more color. I also added the 1/4 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder as someone suggested. The apricots give this dish a very good flavor. Will definitely make again.

I thought this stew was rather bland.

This was good. I liked it, my kids liked it. Not a favorite but will definitely make again. It's healthy and easy, and a bit different from the average slow cooker chicken. I like the apple and cinnamon taste--nice for fall.

I've made this a few times and enjoyed it. The last time however, my entire family got sick after eating, so while I would make it again, I was asked not to. But I still hand it out to people who want a quick, easy crockpot meal. And, the apricots are something you shouldn't skip!

For those of you who thought it tasted to bland, try adding chicken bouilion.

I added a bit of poultry seasoning (Bell's Seasoning), and it was very good. I made Bisquick biscuits to serve alongside, and it was a good dinner.

It was nothing too special, but it tasted good and was easy, so I'd make it again. I had it over both couscous and rice at different times, and definitely preferred the couscous. Toasted almonds on top also added a great texture to the dish.

Being on a budget, I thought I would try this out, and make some revisions with what I had handy. I used apple cider instead of apple juice, some marjoram for added flavor (just a dash or two), chicken tenderloins instead of thighs, added an extra garlic clove and some celery. I also let the chicken simmer in chicken broth before adding it to the crockpot. After about 4 hours of cooking I felt like the stew didn't have enough flavor, and I had the random thought to add about 1/4 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder. Wow, what a difference! If you are worried about it not having enough flavor, try the cocoa, and do not skip the apricots. I served it with rice, and my toddler gobbled it up. :)

I thought this looked good and it really smelled good but it was incredibly bland tasting. Anyone have suggestions on jazzing this up? The only change I made was using chicken breast instead of thighs.

I've made this recipe over and over again. I do not use the slow cooker however. I saute the onion and carrots in a little butter until tender. Then I and all the other ingredients (leaving the apricots and already cooked chicken for the end) and I let it boil down. I use the instant chicken flavored couscous from the store and it makes for a very quick yummy dinner. I love it - and my children do too.
