Candied Flowers Recipe
  • Prep: 30 min. + drying
  • Yield: 40-50 Servings

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons meringue powder
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 40 to 50 edible blossoms of your choice, such as rose petals, violas (Johnny-jump-ups), calendula petals (pot marigold) and dianthus
  • 1-1/4 cups superfine sugar

Directions

  • In a small bowl, dissolve meringue powder in water. Lightly brush over all sides of flowers to coat completely. Sprinkle with sugar. Allow to dry on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet for 1 to 2 days. Use as a garnish for dessert. Yield: 40 to 50 candied flowers.

  • Verify that flowers are edible and have not been treated with chemicals. Superfine sugar can be found in the baking aisle near the granulated sugar. As a substitute for superfine sugar, place granulated sugar in a blender or food processor; cover and pulse until fine.

I didn't have much luck with this method. I tried it with violets- maybe it works better with something else

When I was in collage - I graduated of agricultural science Aka -Argonomist- I took an elective class that was about the conservation of food.One os the laboratories was about the use of edible flowers and hou to conserve them in diferents forms.

The prosses I learned is somewhat more long and complicaed .We used a sugar dipp the flowers were compleatly dried 2 times until the lat and third dip ,then the last part wasto use granulated sugar or xxxsugar .At the last we ended with a very sugary pump flower/

We have always been eating flowers but many people do not reconize then as flowers.An example of them is the artichoque,We also eat parts of flowers sush as seeds.Flowers canbe usaed as condiments,an exanple ara the alcaparras and saffon ,.

 The flowers or its parts to be used as food or condiments are specially grown without use of pesticides or chemicals or any type of contaminants.

can you realy eat flowers? Are you talking about real flowers? Real roses,violas, and marigolds? And where should I buy them? at a florist? Is this a joke or what???????
