This Spicy Pickled Garlic Is Going Viral on TikTok—Here’s How to Make It at Home

The saying is true—there's no such thing as too much garlic!

We all know that anything with garlic as an ingredient is bound to be amazing—that’s just the way it is! Between garlic mashed potatoes, garlic bread and garlic knots, it’s impossible not to indulge every single day.

So what’s next on the garlic agenda?

It might not be exactly what you had in mind. It’s true that garlic goes with everything, but what about garlic straight from a jar? It’s called spicy pickled garlicand it’s going to be your new favorite snack.

How to Make Spicy Pickled Garlic

This recipe comes from TikTok user @lalaleluu. It’s actually super easy to make—and you don’t have to worry about pickling your own garlic. (Although making spicy pickled garlic from scratch can be fun.)

Just pick up a jar of pickled garlic from your local grocery store, along with some sriracha, chili flakes and thyme.

The first step is to drain the vinegar from the jar of garlic. Then, grab your bottle of sriracha and squeeze to your heart’s content. If you like it a little less spicy, don’t add as much—just enough that the garlic will have good coverage. Follow up with a tablespoon or two of Korean chili flakes (also known as gochugaru) and thyme. Then shake, shake, shake that jar!

It’s Almost as Good as Kimchi

If you’re unfamiliar with kimchi, it’s a traditional Korean food consisting of pickled and fermented vegetables. It’s also got a lot of health benefits. Kimchi is often eaten as a spicy dish—and Lala explains that’s how she came up with her pickled garlic snack.

She mentions that she used to live next to a Korean woman who often shared kimchi, and after she moved away, Lala lost her main source of kimchi. She found a way to cure her kimchi craving with garlic. Just add some sriracha and chili flakes, and voila!
