My Italian mother remembers her mother making these dumplings for special occasions. She still has the bowl Grandma mixed the dough in, which will be passed down to me some day. —Tina Repak of Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
The wonderful fresh tomato taste of the sauce complements these light savory dumplings. They make a perfect side dish for a meal with beef. My family enjoys them very much. —Lucille Tucker, Clinton, Illinois
These moist dumplings are an extra-special way to serve potatoes. The bread centers add a comforting touch, and the potato taste really comes through. They go so well with the Beef Rouladen and gravy.

I remember my mother often making this soup for Saturday night supper. During the war years, she would cook a lot of stews and soups - she'd start with a big kettle of chicken stock, and it was amazing what she could make!
Even though I didn't like spinach much, I liked this soup. I loved to help Mom in the kitchen, and was cooking by myself when I was 10.
Cooking has been one of my hobbies, along with sewing and crafting, ever since. I've even won several recipe contests.
Meet the Cook: This recipe's one I had to learn to marry into my husband's family! It is the traditional Hinz Christmas Eve meal, served before going to church. My father was a pastor who was always too keyed up from preaching to enjoy a big Sunday dinner. So I learned to make soup early on. Now, my husband is pastor to two rural churches. Our three children are 17, 15 and 13.
