Chinese Chicken and Broccoli Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 boneless skinless chicken breast
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing rice wine
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing rice wine
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 head of broccoli, chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Slice chicken and add to a bowl with 1 tablespoon oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons Shaoxing rice wine and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Mix well so the chicken is completely covered in the marinade. Set aside while you prepare the rest of the dish.

Combine 3 tablespoons oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine, the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, water and sugar. Whisk well and set aside.

Add 1/3 cup of water to a large nonstick skillet and turn heat to medium-high. Add broccoli and cover to steam for one minute. Remove broccoli and set aside; pour out any remaining water.

Step 4: Cook chicken and sauce

To the same skillet, add sesame oil and heat to medium-high. Add chicken and let brown for two minutes. Flip and brown the other side. Add broccoli, garlic and ginger and stir well. Give the sauce a good stir, then add to the pan along with the remaining 2 tablespoons cornstarch. Stir as it thickens for a couple of minutes. Serve with sticky white rice.
