Gouda Turkey Club
Total TimePrep/Total Time: 15 min.
- 1/2 cup shredded smoked Gouda cheese
- 4 teaspoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon thinly sliced green onion
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
- 4 slices whole wheat bread, toasted
- 2 teaspoons butter, softened
- Romaine leaves
- 4 slices tomato
- 4 ounces sliced deli smoked turkey
- 1/2 medium ripe avocado
- Mix first five ingredients. Spread two slices of toast with butter, then with cheese mixture. Layer with lettuce, tomato and turkey.
- Peel and mash avocado. Spread over remaining slices of toast and place over turkey.

I came across this recipe today and it was a perfect solution for what to make for dinner. I did change and lighten things up a bit, but YUMMY! I had some whole grain tortilla shells that needed to be used up and just enough of Gouda left from another day, so we had wraps instead of toasted bread. In order to lighten it up a bit, I used half the amount of mayo plus 0% fat plain Greek yogurt for the remaining half. I also used 1 teaspoon of fresh minced garlic instead of powder and omitted the butter as I felt it probably didn't need it. I simply layered everything on the wrap, beginning with the cheese mixture and then placed slices of avocado down the center and wrapped it all up. They were amazing!. Thanks for the great recipe

This recipe is simple and easy to make, and my family loves it. It is fun to eat as well, as it is small and easy on a plate.
