Use Your Phone in the Checkout Line
Aldi cashiers have to hit high targets for scan performance—that’s why they’re all moving so fast. If you’re on your phone or distracted during checkout, it makes their job harder.
Take the Cashier’s Cart
The carts are free to use at Aldi, but you need to deposit a quarter to get one (yes, you will get that quarter back). If you didn’t walk in with a cart, then you shouldn’t walk out with one. The cart next to the cashier is definitely not for shoppers to take.
Abandon Your Cart
Yes, Aldi’s system is efficient. But they only have a few checkout lines open at a time. If you loaded up a cart but can’t wait in line, please don’t abandon your cart. Let an Aldi employee know that you’re leaving so someone can put those items back on the shelf.
Bag While They Ring You Up
Let’s revisit the Aldi golden rule: Don’t be distracted at the checkout! That includes bagging your Aldi Finds while cashiers are trying to scan your items. Instead, wait until after payment and bag in the designated bagging area.
Forget Your ID
Aldi asks all customers to show identification to purchase alcohol. Be ready to show an ID when you purchase our favorite Aldi wine, regardless of your age.
Stay Past Closing Hours
It’s no surprise that Aldi stores want close promptly at the end of the day. If you stay beyond closing time, you’re inconveniencing the employees. Be courteous and plan your shopping trip accordingly!
Use Produce Bags for Random Items
Aldi provides bags for its produce and meat items. But employees find customers using them for all sorts of things that don’t belong there. It’s wasteful and it slows the checkout process down. This is what Aldi employees won’t tell you.
Ignore the Workers
The employees at Aldi work hard. The job is demanding, physical and now dangerous, because of COVID-19. It seems like this should go without saying—but be nice to them. Just a bit of kindness goes a long way.
