This DIY All Purpose Cleaner Works Like Magic

Updated: Mar. 15, 2024

Looking to swap out harmful cleaning products with natural ones? This DIY all-purpose cleaner works like a charm on practically every surface!

I grew up cleaning with all different types of cleaning products that always did their purpose: Clean the house. We had window cleaners for windows, wood cleaners for wooden surfaces, and even specific sprays for the bathrooms. When I started living on my own, I continued to use these products since it was what I always knew in terms of cleaning. But when I learned how harmful these products are for your lungs, I had to reevaluate.

In an intensive study published by the European Community Respiratory Health Survey stated that the harmful chemicals typically found in cleaning products could actually create lung function issues. For someone with asthma issues, this wasn’t exactly my favorite thing to hear. I decided it was time to find natural cleaning products that wouldn’t play such a serious role on my lung health. I came across a particular DIY all-purpose cleaning recipe which, as skeptical as I was, I decided to give it a try.

Little did I know that not only would this spray work, but it would work even better than any other cleaning product I’ve ever used.

How Do You Make DIY All-Purpose Cleaner?

This particular spray is made with three simple ingredients: 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar, and 20-30 drops of essential oils.

Now at first, vinegar didn’t seem like enough of a cleaner to me. However, as I did my research, I soon found out that vinegar works very well as a household cleaner. Researchers have proven that vinegar will kill most harmful pathogens, making it one of the most powerful natural cleaners in your pantry. The water simply dilutes the amount of vinegar used in one spray, and the essential oils are simply to help eliminate that vinegary smell.

What Can You Clean with It?

While there are some things you shouldn’t clean with vinegar, it works well across numerous other surfaces. Bathtubs and toilets? Check! Counters and sinks? Check! Tables, chairs and shelves? Check, check, check! Grab a microfiber cloth and it will clean up the toughest of messes wherever you are, leaving your place feeling even cleaner than brand new. It can even shine up those rusty tools! Vinegar can get the gunk out of anything.

So if you’re looking for a natural cleaner to use while you’re spring cleaning your home this season, this simple DIY recipe should do the trick! Simply fill up one of your old spray bottles, or snag a reusable bottle made of glass.
