Red Cup Day Returns to Starbucks on November 16—Here’s How to Score a Free Cup

Updated: Nov. 16, 2023

This is the sixth season of Red Cup Day at Starbucks!

The most wonderful time of year is here: a Starbucks red cup coffee run! Thanksgiving may be near, but Starbucks is already set for holly jolly season with its new Christmas cups and holiday menu.

You could argue that the holiday season starts once Peppermint Mocha is on the menu. The annual Red Cup Day helps kick off the season, too. The sacred day means coffee drinks will unwrap the gift of a free Starbucks reusable cup. It’s time to sip Peppermint Hot Chocolate and cozy up for this year’s Hallmark Countdown to Christmas!

How can I get a Starbucks red cup?

This magical day (and really, it only lasts a day) allows Starbucks customers to pick up a free reusable red holiday cup with a special design. This is the sixth year of red Starbucks cups, and the design is extra enchanting, as it features a festive red, white and green twinkling pattern.

To pick up a Starbucks red cup, order any size handcrafted holiday beverage!

What drinks count for Red Cup Day?

  • Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato
  • Caramel Brulee Latte
  • Chestnut Praline Latte
  • Gingerbread Latte
  • Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso
  • Oleato Gingerbread Oatmilk Latte
  • Peppermint Hot Chocolate
  • Peppermint Mocha
  • Peppermint White Hot Chocolate
  • Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte
  • Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew
  • Pumpkin Spice Latte
  • Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte
  • White Hot Chocolate

From tall to venti, there’s no way I’m missing out on a Gingerbread Latte with a free red cup.

The cups emanate more than holiday cheer—they’re also super sustainable. Starbucks wants to cut its waste footprint in half by 2030, so the cups are made with 75% recycled materials (up from 50% last year). In other words, your coffee is run better for the environment and full of holiday cheer. Sounds like a win-win to me.

Don’t forget that customers who opt for a reusable cup (red cups and beyond) earn a $0.10 order discount. Rewards members also get 25 extra bonus Stars on future orders when they bring in their reusable red cup.

When is Starbucks Red Cup Day?

Red Cup Day is back at Starbucks for its sixth season on November 16. Don’t wait too late in the day, because the red cups are only available while supplies last. (And let’s face it, supplies are likely to go quickly.) Free red cups are included with orders made in-store, at the drive-thru or through the Starbucks app and Starbucks Delivers.

There’s no doubt we’ll add this year’s red cup to our fave Starbucks cups and tumblers list. Until then, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow red cups!
