How to Make Melted Snowman Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

To make these melted snowman sugar cookies, here are the supplies you’ll need.

  • Pre-made sugar cookie dough: You can either buy it pre-made or make it yourself with our classic sugar cookies recipe.
  • Marshmallows: These will be used to make the half-melted head of the snowman. Be sure to buy regular-sized marshmallows and not minis.
  • Colored icing: This will be used for drawing the design of the snowman—like a carrot for the nose, twigs for the arms, or buttons on the melted snow. You can play around with the colors as your heart desires, or go for classic orange and brown/black.
  • Powdered sugar + water: For whisking together the icing to make the snowman look “melted” on the cookie.
  • Sparkling sugar: While this is optional, if you want to give the snowman an extra sparkle, you can sprinkle this sugar on the melted frosting before dressing the snowman.

And of course, be sure your kitchen is stocked and ready for cookie baking with these Christmas baking supplies!

Directions

  1. To start, sprinkle some flour onto a clean surface and roll out your sugar cookie dough with a rolling pin. Using a cookie cutter or a cup, slice circles from your dough and set them aside on a tray or a plate. Continue this process until you’ve used up the dough.
  2. Bake the cookies according to the package or recipe instructions. Let the cookies cool completely before decorating.
  3. Once the cookies are cooled, whisk together powdered sugar with a sprinkling of water. You want the consistency to be thick but not lumpy.
  4. Using a spoon, spread some of the powdered sugar icing on the cookie. Be sure to give it a “melted” look—it shouldn’t be perfectly even on the cookie. Add some sparkling sugar if you desire.
  5. Using a clean set of kitchen shears, cut the marshmallow in half.
  6. Using the colored icing, draw eyes and a carrot nose on the snowman marshmallow head.
  7. Place the cut side on top of some of the icing on the cookie to stick.
  8. Grab the colored icing again and draw the rest of the snowman on the “melted” icing—arms, buttons, or even scarves and other fun snowman essentials. After all, they’re your snowmen, so dress them up as you please!
