How to DIY Pumpkin Candleholders

These magnificent DIY pumpkin candleholders come to us via designer Jules Interiors. Jules’ video for these DIY pumpkin candleholders currently has over 200,000 likes on Instagram. Not to mention, the candleholders cost Jules just $3. What a steal! Here’s how to make the perfect fall decor.

Step 1: Remove the stem

First, snap the pumpkin stem off. Then, use an apple corer (Jules uses this apple corer from Amazon) to core the pumpkin in place of where the stem was. This creates a clearly defined hole in the middle of the pumpkin. Pop a white taper candle (or any fall candle of your choice) in the empty space.

Step 2: Skewer holes and add flowers

Then, use a skewer to create small holes throughout the top of the pumpkin for flower and greenery placement. The flowers Jules uses (which include white snakeroot) are ones she usefully picked up on her morning walks. She also attaches toothpicks to horse chestnuts to easily slide them into the pumpkin holes, as well.

You can replicate this process with any of your favorite fall flowers and color combinations. Like Jules says, “it’s all about the concept, how you do it is up to you.” Simply place the flowers and greenery into the small holes along with the chestnuts. The result? Decor that elevates any space into a cozy fall dream.

Is it safe to leave candles in pumpkins?

Leaving candles inside a pumpkin can potentially be a fire hazard. To avoid this, Jules advises any DIYers to use flameless candles for safety. If you like the look of a real candle, though, leave the candles in and just skip lighting them.

How long do pumpkin candleholders last?

If you use real pumpkins, don’t expect pumpkin candleholders to last forever. (You can lengthen their life by following our guide to preserve pumpkins, though). According to Jules, her pumpkin candleholders lasted a week (although many in the comments are wary that they may start to smell earlier and can only last a few days). If you want the candleholders to last longer, easily swap real pumpkins for artificial ones and use dry flowers. Genius!

Prepare these a few days before Halloween, Thanksgiving or any fall potluck for a flawless autumn touch. And as Jules says, they’re perfect for dinner parties or wedding decor, too. There’s no doubt these pumpkins say “happy fall,” and we’re here for it.
