People Are Making Deep-Fried Oreos in an Air Fryer, and It’s Genius

Updated: Dec. 17, 2023

Bite-size, delicious and (reasonably) healthy? These air fryer Oreos are about to become your best friend.

TikTok users everywhere are indulging in deliciously sweet things this winter, and after giant hot cocoa bombs and 3-ingredient ice cream, it’s time for Oreos to take center stage. This time, they’re accompanied by one of our favorite kitchen appliances: the trusty air fryer!

How to Make Air Fryer Oreos

While replicating this State Fair favorite at home would usually require messy pancake batter and the risk of oil burns, TikTok users have (as always) found a workaround. Making the perfect crunchy-on-the-outside and gooey-on-the-inside fried Oreo has never been easier.

You’ll need Oreos, a tube of crescent roll dough and some Pam, plus confectioners’ sugar for dusting the finished treats.

Directions

Step 1: Wrap the Oreos

Lay out a sheet of crescent dough and separate it at the perforations to create four triangle-shaped pieces. Place an Oreo at the end of each one and then roll until it’s completely covered.

Step 2: Fire up the air fryer

Spray the inside of your air fryer with your cooking oil (preferably a neutral one, like canola) and pop the dough-wrapped Oreos inside. Set the temperature to 325°F and cook for 5-7 minutes. (If you’re looking for a little more crisp, some users have also tried cooking them at 350°F and 375°F.)

Step 3: Let cool

Take your Oreos out and lay them on a plate to cool, then dig in!

How to Top Your Air Fryer Oreos

We went with a light dusting of powdered sugar, but the sky’s the limit when it comes to these babies. Use sprinkles, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and cherries, maple syrup or any other sweet condiment you have lying around. If you really want to kick it up a notch, you could even make a salted caramel sauce.

Why Is This So Good?!

Um, because it’s Oreos and fried dough—what’s not to love? However, that’s not the only thing. Making fried Oreos in the air fryer means you have to use little to no oil, making this decadent treat well, not healthy, but definitely healthier than the fare you find at the, ahem, fair.

If you want to put a new spin on your Oreos, some users have suggested using cinnamon-roll dough, or spreading a dollop of Nutella or peanut butter on your Oreos before you wrap them.
