This version of apple pie is complimented by a wonderful crumble topping. After trying several apple pie recipes over the years, I gave up and created my own... now a family favorite!

Ingredients

Crust:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups flour
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
1/4 cup ice water (may not use all of it)

Filling:
4-5 thinly sliced Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
3 Tbsp flour
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup granulated sugar

Topping:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions

For the crust, mix the flour and sugar. Cut the butter into the mixture. Then stir mixture with a fork while slowly adding the water. When mixture starts to clump, and before it turns into a ball stop stirring and press into a deep 9" pie plate.
Mix flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sugar. Add to apples, mix, and place into pie crust.
Mix topping ingredients in a small bowl until crumbly. Crumble over top of apples.
Bake at 425* for 40 minutes. Place aluminum foil over top and cook an additional 10 minutes.
