Baked Custard for Two
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1. In a bowl, lightly beat the egg. Stir in the milk, sugar, vanilla and salt until combined.
- 2. Pour into 2 ungreased 6-oz. custard cups. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Place in an 8-in. square baking dish; add 1 in. of hot water to the pan. Bake at 350° until a knife comes out clean, 35 minutes.
1 each: 189 calories, 7g fat (3g saturated fat), 123mg cholesterol, 239mg sodium, 25g carbohydrate (24g sugars, 0 fiber), 7g protein.
Aug 17, 2019Absolutely delicious and so quick and easy to make. I have made this several times already and even tripled the recipe to make 4 large custard cups when we had guests. Everyone loved it!
May 13, 2019Made exactly as written. Not sure what I did wrong as I’ve made custards many times before. My custard broke, leaving a watery bottom and the custard was not smooth and creamy as it should have been. It tasted phenomenal despite the foul up. Will try again in a week or so.

I absolutely love this recipe! It reminds me of the custard pie my mom used to make when we were kids. I have made this recipe multiple times now, I love how simple it is and that I can make it before work and have fresh custard to take with me, everyone in the office has asked me for this recipe because it smells just absolutely heavenly. I make mine in a very large mug, and use both servings for one serving, as it has 14g of protein! I keep the cooking time the same as listed and it comes out perfect every time!

Been looking for this recipe for several years! It's always been one of my favorites as well as my mom who has been asking me to make some! Easy and delicious. :)

easy and yummy. Next time I would double the recipe, it makes more sense to have some for the next day rather than just two servings.
