 Chewy Cream Cheese Brownies
Brownies are a common dessert in our household - they're just about the only form of chocolate my husband will eat! I love this version that makes a big batch and has a rich cream-cheese layer in the center.

  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped nuts, optional
  • 2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract


  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a microwave, melt chocolate and butter;
  • stir until smooth. Cool slightly. In a large bowl, beat eggs and
  • sugar. Stir in vanilla and chocolate mixture. Gradually add flour to
  • chocolate mixture (batter will be thick). Stir in nuts if desired.
  • Spread half of the batter evenly into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan;
  • set aside.
  • In a small bowl, beat filling ingredients until blended. Gently
  • spread over batter. Spoon remaining batter over filling; spread to
  • cover.

  • Bake 45-50 minutes or until filling is set. Cool on a wire rack 1
  • hour. Refrigerate at least 2 hours. Cut into bars. Refrigerate
  • leftovers.
  • Yield: 4 dozen.
Wine: Sweet White Wine: Enjoy this recipe with a sweet white wine such as Moscato or a sweet Riesling.
