Zippy Broccoli

"I changed the original recipe for this side dish to use hop pepper sauce instead of red pepper flakes," notes Bryan Forster of Clayton, Ontario. "The zesty seasonings really punch up the flavor."

  • 7 cups fresh or frozen broccoli florets
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce


  • Place broccoli and water in a microwave-safe bowl; cover and cook on high for 3-5 minutes or until crisp-tender. Meanwhile, combine remaining ingredients. Drain broccoli. Drizzle with lemon juice mixture; toss to coat.

    My sister-in-law gave me this recipe. It's the first time that I can honestly say that I liked eating broccoli! Yum!

    Our household loves broccoli so making it in different ways is fun. This was very good. My husband loved it. I prefer less heat so the second time used half the hot pepper sauce.

    When using frozen broccoli I would suggest following the package directions for time and amount of water. It really was a tasty change from our usual steamed broccoli with butter!

    Really good! I used 2 large garlic cloves and it had strong garlic flavor.

    My family enjoys this refreshing tangy sauce. It's super simple to make. I've never used the pepper sauce, we enjoy the milder flavor.

    I wasn't crazy about this recipe and we love broccolli. Plain, steamed broccoli is the best tasting way to serve it at least for us. I'm glad I tried it but I'm deleting it from my recipe box.

    My family loved this recipe. I have had a hard time getting my 4 year old to eat broccoli and he devoured it and has been asking for it every dinner since. I steam it instead of microwaving so it preserves the nutritional value. Thank you so much for this recipe!
