Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup slivered almonds

Directions

In a bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolk; mix well. Combine the flour, cinnamon and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture.
Press into a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan. Beat the egg white; brush over dough. Sprinkle with almonds.
Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes and cut into bars; cool completely. Yield: 2-1/2 dozen.
