Reviews for Vanilla Frosting
"This isn't even frosting what kin do of frosting is this. Oh and the picture is photoshopped so dang girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"I am very disappointed with this so called "frosting". I was making this for my 6 years old birthday cake. Just so you are not confused she is turning 6 and is at the moment 5 since she doesn't turn 6 till 11:39 p.m. tonight. Anyways, I was trying to decide between this recipe and another and chose this one, since I only had 2 cups of powdered sugar at my house at the time. I made it and was gravely disappointed with the results. It tasted like watery sugar and it was disgusting. My daughters birthday party was ruined with no iced cake. Without icing her uncle choked on the cake since it was dry with no icing. He had to be rushed to the emergency room and almost died. And let me tell you, this was hilarious since I hated my brother-in-law and honestly one of the best days of my life. Made me happy but was horrid."
"Very good icing"
"What a terrible recipe, such a mess."
"Sounds good and easy"
"Great base recipe, but like others said, the powdered sugar flavor is WAY too strong. I added more vanilla, about twice the recommended amount. I also added much more butter, about 4tbspns. Those two things really helped scale back the overpowering sugar taste, and made it a great frosting. With those changes, it's now my go-to frosting and I've gotten loads of compliments."
"It was my first time making actual homemade frosting, and it was really good for a start."
"it turned out like a sugary glob!"
"The recipe is right. Except one major part. Do not dump it in all at once. Slowly add the sugar about 1/2-1 cup at a time. Every other time add a drizzle of milk or flavored creamer a small drizzle at time. Add the vanilla on the last beat. This helps incorporate the sugar so you don't have a mouth full of confectioners sugar. Iv bee making frosting for years and I have found this way to be time consuming but so worth it."
"we didnt have enough regular sugar so we added maple sugar best mistake ever :D"
"easy to make but tasted way too much of confectioners sugar. Not something I would use again."
"Nice n easy."
"Very easy to make , works great if you need a white palate to decorate on. I add a little more vanilla just because I like it. Love it on cupcakes!"
"very good frosting but the powdered sugar is a dominating taste to the vanilla but overall very good, if it is to thick try putting two more tablespoons of milk in and it should loosen um"
"I made this recipe last night and it turned out delicious. I read some previous reviews and added 1 tablespoon of vanilla to a double batch. I will definitely be making this again!"
"Although mine tasted a bit like confectioners sugar, and I don't own a mixer (yet), this is very nice. I added extra vanilla for more flavor."
"This is amazing. I used 1/2 s tablespoon of vanilla though. Added a stronger flavour. Otherwise this is one of the best recipes I've ran into. Than you for sharing! :)"
"Oh my GOSH! This frosting is the bomb dot com! Can't wait to use it on my mom's birthday cake!"
"This tastes like pure sugar, I can't imagine covering a cake with it."
"why the heck would you put icing on bread !?!?!?!?!?!?!!?"
"Perfect with the pumpkin chocolate chip cupcakes I made!"
"This is very delicious"
"For those that had problems with this recipe. When you are adding powdered sugar to any recipe (even flour) you should add slowly only adding more when it is incorporated. Add only part of the milk with each addition of sugar. If it gets too thick add more milk at a rate of 1/8 teaspoon at a time. If you need thicker icing/frosting for decoration then make the mixture thicker. This is a basic recipe for more buttercream icing/frosting."
"I totaly screwed up the megerments and it still worked!!!!"
"It's great for the family cakes and cupcakes"
"this tasted really good just right amount of everything"
"This was quick to make and very delicious! absolutely love this and so does my family!"
"Better than store."
"It was pretty runny."
"I was so excited to find a recipe that didn't call for so much butter! I doubled the recipe and used the frosting on my cupcakes. It's easy to make, which is great. BUT! The frosting hardened overnight. It's still edible and it's not crunchy when you bite into it, but I would hate for other people to be turned off from my cupcakes because of the sight of the frosting. I stuck handmade chocolate snowflakes on top of the cupcake, so the plus side is that it kept everything in place!"
"Do not let a discouraging comment keep you from trying a new recipe because you will miss out! I followed the recipe exactly and it was thick. Here is what I done to make it better. I used: *16oz (1 LB) 10X Powered Sugar * 5 tablespoons butter *3 tablespoons and 1/2 tsp milk * 1/2 teaspoon another 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract because the original is just to thick to even spread across the cake. It's a very excellent recipe I love it!"
"this tasted good but the consistency wasnt great. to keep adding sugar would have ruined flavor. good for baking nite with the kids but not if u want to hold firm."
"add 1/2 cup of butter (1 stick) and then the recipe is perfect. i put it in the freezer for about 5-10 mins so it thickens and then beat it on high for 1 min"
"This frosting turned out looking and tasting like cat puke. it was so thin that you could easily mistake it for a drink. In fact, when trying to dispose of it, we couldn"t figure out whether to throw it in the trash or rinse it down the sink. I would not recommend this recipe, I am a very experienced baker and followed the directions correctly but it turned out to be a waste of ingredients."
"First time making icing. Very easy and yummy!"
"Basically this the buttercream frosting that my mother taught me 50 years ago and it is still my families favorite."
"Add a little more butter-more calories, yes, but less sweet and even creamier."
