Sweet & Salty Party Mix
My husband doesn't like traditional party mixes because he thinks they’re too salty or sweet. He calls this one his favorite—it’s just right. —Jackie Burns, Kettle Falls, Washington

I hate to rate a recipe low, but this was near impossible to mix up in a 6 qt crock pot. I did the best I could and stirred halfway but there was no mixing it very well. I think in an oven on a bigger pan would work much better. I have a similar recipe that I have used that is much easier to make. It is so very sticky when the liquid "hits" the mixture and that makes it hard to stir as well. Sorry.
I don't have a slow cooker, so I used my oven and baked the snack mix for 1 hour, stirring frequently-about every 10 to 15 minutes at a 250o F. oven temperature. I just used Corn Chex and Rice Chex and 1 cup of Cheerios cereal. I used 4 cups of pretzel sticks and 1 cup EACH mixed nuts and peanuts and 1 cup sliced almonds. I didn't have dried cranberries! I made the brown sugar/butter mixture and cooked just 5 minutes (including the baking soda). I'd used a large steamer pan to bake the snack mix in. I did have to really stir the snack mix to make sure that it got coated! Rather than spread out the snack mix on waxed paper, I cooled the mix in the baking pan. I then placed in gallon-sized ziplocked food storage bags. I sampled this mix and I found it to be delicious-really crunchy and tasty! I could have really filled up on this party mix! delowenstein
