Sweet ‘n’ Sassy Meatballs
Total TimePrep: 35 min. Bake: 20 min.

The timing for baking should be less than 15 and temperature should be 350! Using turkey Italian sausage and lean turkey meat made is very hard and was not juicy at all. I guess I will add some oil to it or mix it with the regular ground meet. The Chili sauce and apricot were very good and added a nice taste to it.

I made these for a farewell lunch at work.Because I was serving them with a tomato sauce & pasta, I adjusted the recipe.I did not add the chili sauce, the Italian sausages nor the apricot preserves. For the bread crumbs, I used Pastene Italian flavoured bread crumbs that are not available everywhere. They have Romano cheese, herbs & spices.I was looking for a recipe for turkey meatball s because we have a new employee who does not eat beef.Well, they are delicious! I used a hand held meatball press. I coated it with olive oil so the meat didn't stick. I wore surgical gloves to firmly shape the meatballs because the press doesn't quite do it. I baked them in the oven the day before & warmed them up in the oven 1 hour before lunch. I got rave reviews from everyone. Today we are having leftovers because of course I cooked too much pasta & we can't waste the meatballs.Thank you Taste of Home for another delicious recipe. OBTW I also served fresh baked whole wheat rolls made on the weekend with my bread machine. The recipe is my favourite whole wheat bread machine recipe from Taste of Home.Smacking my lips in Montreal Quebec CanadaMarilyn Barter
Commercially prepared chili sauce is not (in my estimation anyway) all that spicy, but I would think that plain old tomato ketchup would be an adequate alternative.
What can I use in place of chili sauce? My husband cannot have anything spicy.tkmandy
I don't see why you couldn't. What I would do is fry one meatball in a small nonstick skillet, then taste it to see if any of the seasonings needed adjusting. If so, make your adjustments, then fry another single meatball and taste again.
could you use hamburger instead of ground turkey?
