Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke, optional
  • 3/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 3/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  • In a small saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, Liquid Smoke if desired and seasonings. Cook and stir until heated through.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. Use as a basting sauce for grilled meats.
