Spiced Mint Tea

This delightful recipe makes teatime special. Dress up this homemade fresh mint tea with spices and a bit of honey if you like. —Ione Banks, Jefferson, Oregon

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 2 whole allspice
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves
  • Honey, optional

Directions

  • Place the water, cinnamon, cloves and allspice in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Boil for 1 minute. Stir in mint leaves. Remove from the heat; cover and steep for 5 minutes. Strain tea. Serve with honey if desired.

    Nice recipe. Light and pleasant. It is called "tea" because the mint leaves are steeped, as you would to make any fresh herbal "tea." (Even though there are no actual leaves from a tea plant.) The lovely old-fashioned term "tisane" just isn't used very often anymore for herb/ fruit teas. Will make this again. Would recommend bruising the leaves lightly to release their oils before adding to the water.

    This recipe leaves something, or should I say, alot to be desired. I made it as stated and wouldn't bother to make it ever again.

    This recipe sounded really good. I modified it with things I had on hand and it was wonderfully refreshing. Here are my modifications:2 cups water1/4 t each ground cinnamon and ground allspicestick cinnamonMicrowave 3 mins. Stir. Microwave 3 more minsAdd 2 mint tea bagsSteep 5 mins.Add agave nectar.Enjoy.
