I developed this recipe for my daughter, who loved wings. My family always welcomed her friends to our house for any occasion. This recipe reminds me of the many good times shared in my home with family and friends, and time spent with my very special daughter. —Noreen McCormick Danek, Cromwell, Connecticut

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh gingerroot
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • Sesame seeds and additional chopped green onions

Directions

  1. Using a sharp knife, cut through the two wing joints; discard wing tips. Place chicken wings in a 5-qt. slow cooker. In a large bowl, mix brown sugar, soy sauce, green onions, ketchup, vinegar, broth, honey, garlic, ginger and oil. Pour over chicken wings; toss to coat. Cover and cook on low until chicken juices run clear, 3-4 hours.
  2. Preheat broiler. Transfer chicken wings to a foil-lined 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Broil 3-4 in. from heat 2-3 minutes on each side or until lightly charred. Meanwhile, transfer cooking liquid to a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until sauce is reduced by half, 12-15 minutes. Sprinkle wings with sesame seeds and additional green onions; serve with sauce.
