Slow-Cooked Green Beans

Ingredients

  • 16 cups frozen french-style green beans (about 48 ounces), thawed
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon reduced-sodium soy sauce

Directions

  • 1. Place beans in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Mix remaining ingredients; pour over beans and toss to coat. Cook, covered, on low until heated through, 2-3 hours. Serve with a slotted spoon.

    Both hubby and I really enjoyed this recipe. I used garlic powder instead of the garlic salt. Really down sized the amounts for just us 2. I used fresh green beans which i sliced down the middle. Baked at 250, covered for 1-1/2 hours. Fabulous. Volunteer Field Editor.

    I had the time and space so I cooked this recipe on the stovetop, making enough for 2. I only added 1/4 teaspoon of brown sugar, garlic salt, and soy. Also added 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger as one reviewer suggested. We cleaned our plates; so delicious!!!

    Green Beans are by far my favorite veggie. I wanted to make this ahead of Thanksgiving so my extended family didnt end up being my guinea pigs. Sure glad I did. I reduced the recipe in half so I gave some credit for that. This was not very good at all. Who doesnt like brown sugar butter green beans and soy sauce? Usually nobody. I double checked my ingredients and measurements and they were spot on but not this dish.

    I reduced all of the quantities by 2/3 to feed my small family: 16-oz. bag of French-cut frozen green beans, 2 tbsp. brown sugar, 2 tbsp. melted butter, 1/2 tsp. garlic salt and 1/4 tsp. soy sauce. This amount fits perfectly into a 1 1/2-quart slow cooker. I've made it a few times now and have decided that everyone likes it better if I go scanty on the brown sugar and add just a dribble of additional soy sauce. I love that you can start it early and forget about it while you're preparing other dishes.

    I used fresh green beans. I steamed them for 6 minutes in the microwave and then put them in the crock pot. so easy to make. I added an onion and some ginger for even more flavor. My family ate the whole thing. Will definitely make these again

    This is such an easy way to fix a side dish—especially for a big meal like Thanksgiving or Christmas! Very tasty; however, my family felt they were too sweet, so now I cut down on the sugar and add a splash more soy sauce and they are perfect!

    I used the big can of Cut Green Beans from Sam's and drained them. Placed in Crock Pot, mixed the stick of melted butter, brown sugar, soy sauce and garlic salt together and poured over them. Set it on low for 2 and half hours. So easy. They were delicious! Wouldn't change a thing!

    Made for Christmas. Very good. Everyone loved them. The only change I made eas to use vegan butter so my vegan daughter could eat them . Made them in a big pot instead of the crockpot. Will definitely make them again.

    Cut the recipe in half for 1st try. LOVED it. Picky daughter even liked them!!
