Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 30 milk chocolate kisses
  • 1-1/3 cups confectioners' sugar, divided
  • 2 tablespoons baking cocoa

2 each: 366 calories, 22g fat (11g saturated fat), 36mg cholesterol, 136mg sodium, 40g carbohydrate (24g sugars, 2g fiber), 5g protein.

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Gradually add flour and mix well. Fold in walnuts. Refrigerate dough 2-3 hours or until firm.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°. Shape into 1-in. balls. Flatten balls and place a chocolate kiss in the center of each; pinch dough together around kiss. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets.
  3. Bake 12 minutes or until set but not browned. Cool 1 minute; remove from pans to wire racks.
  4. Sift together 2/3 cup confectioners' sugar and cocoa. While cookies are still warm, roll half in cocoa mixture and half in remaining confectioners' sugar. Cool completely. Store in an airtight container. Yield: 2-1/2 dozen.

"I make these at Christmas with a candied cherry inside (Sugarplum Surprises) & make them round. For Valentine's Day I shape them like a "kiss' & cover them w/foil along with "the tag" saying Happy Valentines Day or THINK SPRING!!! (If you can't tolerate nuts use oatmeal) Very easy to make & fun too!!"

"I am glad I tried this recipe. My grandchildren loved the chocolate kisses inside. Because of the children, I didn't add the walnuts, but I am sure that would have added a lot. Nice change from peanut butter blossoms with Hershey Kisses on top."

"Easy and yummy. My kids loved helping make these - I rolled out the balls and flattened them, and the kids put the kisses in the middle and sealed them up. A fun cookie to make together."

"I've been making these for years (with a couple slight variations) and they're always a hit. I add 3/4 cup mini chocolate chips to the cookie dough and I use the kisses with an almond in the center. I've never rolled them in sugar after baking, but that sounds good. A real Christmas classic."

"These cookies are labor intensive and not all that tasty. Rolling into balls warms the dough up - it is too soft for the next step. So I tried placing them in the fridge. In the end I rolled the dough and cut out circles then wrapped the chocolate."
