Round Steak Italiano
My mom used to make this wonderful dish, and I’ve always enjoyed it. The
gravy is especially dense and flavorful.—Deanne Stephens, McMinnville, Oregon

This was really a great Slow cooker recipe!!! I used baby potatoes and spaghetti sauce (in place of tomato sauce) because I had those open and on hand. We also added chopped onion and some Italian seasoning. The meat was fork tender!! We will be making this again!! .
I would like to know what exactly is it in this recipe makes it "Italiano"? It was good and I'll make it again, but I don't see the indication where it is considered a "Italiano" recipe.
I must say these old fashioned home style dishes are interesting, but I always laugh when I see canned soup involved....! I made a very similar dish to this last week with potatoes on top layered and cooked the beef very slow for 6 hours.... I would never use garlic or oinion salt or powder though - use fresh garlic and onions. The gravy here will be very bland as stated....you need celery, carrots and wine to get richness - shallots and or sherry would work well too and perhaps a herb like tarragon. This is very simple cooking that works well for some I know, but it is not for foodies.
Oh my...this is so good! I didn't have time to use the slow cooker so used the stovetop setting on my Ninja. I also cooked the potatoes separately as they weren't in the best of shape. I used 2 lbs. beef cubes but tripled the sauce except for the onion soup mix. I had none on hand so used 2 T. dried onions, 1 t. onion powder, a pinch of dried celery flakes and 1 T. beef flavored Better Than Bouillon I served it over garlic mashed potatoes along with oven roasted asparagus. I can't wait to taste the leftovers.
Has anyone tried this using chuck instead of round steak? I have always used chuck for my pot roasts.
My family really liked this dish. They told me to TRIPLE the gravy next time they liked it so well! They said the potatoes melted in their mouths. I was able to thicken with the corn starch and water right in the crock pot itself on high. A good combination with this is green beans and sour cream for the potatoes. Rave reviews on that one! I would just use the gravy alone for other uses it was so good!
Great! I left the amount of dry onion soup mix, so as not to make the dish too salty.
Made this for dinner tonight for my mom and I. I'm giving it five stars because it's a good recipe, but everyone tastebuds are different. I'll make this again but tweek it a bit. I'd add the whole package of onion soup mix. Maybe so wine. To me
This was so tasty and so simple to make. I had a Greek seasoning mix, so I used that instead of straight up oregano. Our grocery had petite sirloin steaks on sale, so I substituted those for the round steak. When I got home from work, the house smelled divine. I made a delicious Parmesan Risotto in my pressure cooker which was a perfect complement to this dish. I can't wait to make this again and may make it for my co-workers for our next potluck! Thanks so much for sharing.
SO GOOD!!! super easy to put together and then come home to dinner DONE! this will be put into the regular rotation.
