Ranch Avocado Yogurt Dip
This ranch avocado yogurt dip packs protein, fiber and flavor in one bowl. Serve it with your favorite crisp veggies or crackers for lunch or a party snack.
My work-from-home lunches are among my most creative kitchen endeavors. Because I need something fast and easy, preferably without much cooking beyond a quick spin in the microwave or toaster oven, I’ll grab whatever I can find in the fridge and pantry and throw it together. Sometimes I get pretty wild concoctions, like cold pizza topped with coleslaw, brown rice with a can of smoked trout and fresh herbs, or eggs scrambled with last night’s leftovers (pot roast, broccoli, corn, you name it). Other times I strike gold with something I want to make on repeat, like this ranch avocado yogurt dip.
Like most dip recipes, it’s definitely easy. Simply mash a super-ripe avocado with lime juice, then add creamy Greek yogurt and a hit of ranch seasoning blend. A squeeze of agave syrup (or honey) and a pinch of salt balance the lime and yogurt’s acidity, enhancing the ranch’s herbal and buttermilk flavors. And I love that it’s packed with nutrients—avocado is a high-fiber food with good fats, potassium and vitamins, and Greek yogurt boasts gut-healthy probiotics and protein. Served with fresh veggies and a few seeded crackers, it’s a practical, balanced meal.
But this dip is so much more than a desk lunch. Make ranch avocado yogurt dip the centerpiece of a crudites platter for your next game night or potluck, or serve it with breadsticks and flatbreads. Use it as a spread for burgers, your favorite wrap recipes or sandwiches. When thinned, you can drizzle it over roasted vegetables or toss it into a salad. Cut the recipe in half or double it, add extra herbs or spice it up—avocado yogurt ranch dip is as versatile as it is delicious.
Ingredients for Ranch Avocado Yogurt Dip
- Avocado: To create a smooth dip, use soft, ripe avocados. Haas are the go-tos at most grocery stores, but if you have access to other varieties, use them! If you picked up a bag of hard avocados, we have some tips on how to ripen avocados quickly.
- Lime juice: Fresh lime juice adds a bright hit of acid to the dip and helps keep the avocado from turning the dip brown.
- Greek yogurt: Thick, tangy Greek yogurt is a great way to boost your protein intake. I prefer 2% Fage, but you can use any full-fat or low-fat plain Greek yogurt here.
- Ranch seasoning blend: Ranch seasoning covers all the bases with buttermilk powder, onion and garlic, dill, green onion and chives. I like Trader Joe’s ranch seasoning blend—it has just the right amount of buttermilk tang and herbs for my taste—but you can use any brand you like.
- Agave nectar: Agave nectar (or syrup) packs in a lot of sweetness and has a low glycemic index. It’s an optional ingredient, but a smidge subtly counters the acidity of the lime and yogurt in this dip. Honey will do in a pinch as well.
- Salt: Many ranch seasoning blends contain salt, so you don’t need much. I typically use kosher salt or flaky sea salt to season dips like this, but any salt will do.
- Optional dippers: Crackers, celery, carrots, red bell peppers and cucumbers are just a few options that pair well with this dip.
Directions
Step 1: Make the dip

In a medium bowl, mash the avocado and lime juice until smooth.

Add the yogurt, ranch seasoning blend and agave syrup (if using). Mix until well combined. Add salt to taste.
Editor’s Tip: I season this with salt “to taste” because some ranch seasoning blends are saltier than others. Start with a pinch of salt and add more if needed.
Step 2: Serve
Serve with crackers, fresh celery, carrots, red bell peppers or cucumbers.
Editor’s Tip: As with any dip, letting it sit for at least 30 minutes before eating will allow the flavors to meld. That said, you can also eat this right away.

Ranch Avocado Yogurt Dip Variations
- Add more ranch: If you want more ranch flavor, add more seasoning blend. I suggest letting the dip sit for 30 minutes or so to let the flavors meld before adding more.
- Make it herby: In addition to the ranch seasoning blend, you can add fresh herbs. A snip of fresh chives or a few tablespoons chopped green onion, parsley, cilantro or dill livens it up a lot.
- Give it some kick: Diced seeded jalapenos, a shake of smoked paprika or a pinch of cayenne add a nice pop to this dip.
How to Store Ranch Avocado Yogurt Dip
Store ranch avocado dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last up to three days. Like an avocado that browns, the dip may discolor a bit on top. Either mix it in (it’s OK to eat brown avocado) or carefully scrape off the top layer and dig in.
Ranch Avocado Yogurt Dip Tips

How should you cut an avocado for ranch avocado yogurt dip?
Because you’re blending the avocado into this dip, you don’t need refined dices or chunks. Cut the avocado in half and scoop out the flesh into a bowl. Add the lime and mash it up with a fork or spoon. If the mixture is too chunky, you can always blend it in a food processor.
What else can you serve with ranch avocado yogurt dip?
Serve any crisp fresh vegetable, from celery and carrots to bell peppers, cucumber, jicama, radishes, and broccoli or cauliflower florets, with ranch avocado yogurt dip. Crackers, breadsticks, toasted naan or soft pita are great options on the side. Outside of dipdom, use the recipe on grilled chicken souvlaki pitas or fried chicken sandwiches. Thin it out with some buttermilk or add a bit of extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar to have a delicious dressing ready for a big green salad, almost like a healthier version of our copycat Chick-fil-A avocado-lime ranch dressing.
