Pecans Diablo

Spices showcase pecans in a new light. This recipe is a zesty snack for any party, but the heat of the pecans well suits the cool, crisp evenings that come with Halloween. —Taste of Home Test Kitchen

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 5 cups pecan halves
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the butter, rosemary, cayenne and basil. Add pecans and toss to coat. Spread in a single layer in a 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Sprinkle with salt.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 325° for 17-20 minutes or until pecans are crisp, stirring occasionally. Cool completely. Store in an airtight container.

1/3 cup: 276 calories, 29g fat (4g saturated fat), 8mg cholesterol, 272mg sodium, 5g carbohydrate (1g sugars, 3g fiber), 3g protein.

    add spice to suit your taste. We like it a litte spicey so added dash more cayenne but the rest the same. Great taste, easy to munch on!!!

    good texture, nice flavor, a little too salty for my taste, but everyone else liked it a lot. i think the butter really crisps them up.

    Hey Gang,The recipe calls for "Pecan Halves" . . .Anybody heard of Pecan Pieces?Works the same, half as "Pretty" and 1/3 the Price!JD

    This sounds great can't wait to try it. lLittle advise for Ohio46 try looking in the bulk area of the store you shop most of the time I find my nuts and spices so much cheaper when they are not prepackaged and it saves greatly

    Not at all! You could totally do this with other nuts, even peanuts would work fine.

    I haven't made this recipe yet, but I saw the comment from Ohio46. You are so right about the high prices for pecans. But I might have a solution for you.....Do you have a Costco store in your area? We buy all our nuts at Costco because they are priced so reasonable and they rarely raise the prices. You can get a 2lb. Bag (8 cups) for about 15.99. That works out to about 10.00 to make the recipe with 3 cups left over. A little more affordable :-)Hope this helps you:-))))

    This looks great but I priced pecans at my local store at $10.99 per pound so that would be approximately two cups while this recipe calls for five cups which comes to about $27.50. Am I the only poor housewife out here?
